Santa Cruz La Laguna is our Mayan village of about 3,000 people. Our first language is Kaq’chikel, though we also speak Spanish and English. Our women proudly wear the colourful ‘traje’—handmade clothing that reflects our cultural traditions.

These traditions have been passed down through generations. Our vividly coloured textiles tell stories of our heritage and identity.

Local food is an important part of everyday life here. From traditionally baked mushroom pepián and tamales to fresh ceviche, our cuisine reflects both our culture and the rich land we call home.

According to ancient Mayan legends, Lake Atitlán is where the world was born. Located in Guatemala’s serene highlands, the lake captivates you with its deep blue waters, surrounded by towering volcanoes and lush greenery.

The region is rich in wildlife and natural beauty. The area is also a birdwatcher’s paradise, with more than 300 documented bird species, including the elusive quetzal—also the name of Guatemala’s national currency.

Lake Atitlán is about 50 kilometres in circumference, and the weather—like the landscape—varies. At an elevation of 1,552 metres (5,125 feet), the region has a subtropical highland climate that makes it comfortable to visit year-round. This climate has earned the area the nickname “Land Of Eternal Spring.”
